It is 2017 and I have looked everywhere!!!! for a solution to root my Xoom and finally, finally this has worked!!!! I found a few niggles that I had with the guide which I think enhances the experience of success.

When you put the SDK_Tools folder in C:\ go inside the folder and right click and press SHIFT. Open windows command here and followed the rest in step 2. The recovery file is dead on the above link BUT you can find it here.

https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B37W1jgz9YkrdEJTSWhDUWsteU0/edit

^^^^ONLY DOWNLOAD THE RECOVERY FILE FROM THERE.

In step 5, This should be additional. Once you have verification on your device that this has been flashed, reboot your device by holding volume up + power.
Then 3 seconds after you see the Motorola logo, hit volume down. You should now see "Android Recovery" in the top left corner. Hit volume up to boot into recovery. If you're in clockwork mod recovery you can continue (This recovery image will say it is clockwork mod) . If you're not looking at clockwork mod, then you need to repeat step 4 again.

Hope this helps because it tooks me absolutely ages to find a solution and thanks to this site, I managed it.
